BSN TV aired "Matsudai Rice Terraces Story 2: Cultivating to Heaven."
On Saturday, February 17, from 4:00 p.m. to 4:55 p.m., BSN TV aired “Matsudai Terraced Rice Fields Story 2: Cultivating the Land to Reach the Heavens,” a program featuring the terraced rice fields of Matsudai in Tokamachi City.
Matsudai, in Tokamachi City, is a village of terraced rice fields dotted with beautiful landscapes such as Hoshitoge Pass. Seeking to find new value in these terraced fields—where abandoned farmland is rapidly increasing due to a shortage of farmers—there are people who have moved here or embarked on new challenges.
The camera follows the struggle against the scorching heat and water shortages to preserve Japan’s traditional landscapes—including efforts to restore abandoned terraced rice fields, the emergence of co-working houses that offer lodging, and the active involvement of local residents, town revitalization volunteers, and other volunteers.
