Nagaoka Bioeconomy Symposium 2024 (Part 1)

On Tuesday, February 27, the first session of the Nagaoka Bioeconomy Symposium 2024—a series of lectures—was held at Aore Nagaoka.

This symposium marked the first event held since the launch of the “Nagaoka-AIST Biological Resource Recycling Bridge Innovation Laboratory (NAGAOKA-AIST-BIL),” in which our university is a participating partner.

On the day of the event, more than 250 people from both within and outside the prefecture attended—both in person and online—making it a huge success.

To begin with, under the title “Taking on the Challenge of Social Implementation Together with AIST,” AIST presented its initiatives and examples of social implementation to local residents.

In addition, Professor Gomi from the Graduate School of Agricultural Science at Tohoku University delivered a keynote speech titled “Learning from Japanese Sake Brewing Techniques for the Utilization of Biomass.”

In the case study session, Ogasawara served as moderator. Presentations were given on initiatives at our university and Osaka Public University, and Mr. Hara from the Process Development Department of Fujiwara Techno-Art Co., Ltd.—a leading manufacturer of brewing machinery—introduced his company’s initiatives. In addition, as part of the presentation on initiatives within Nagaoka City, Mr. Murakami, President and CEO of Neos Co., Ltd., and Mr. Shimada, President of Niigata Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (Nagaoka Branch), spoke about the N-Cycle Project and the BSN Radio program “Niigata: The Rice Capital—Agricultural Support Team.”

Moving forward, through the initiatives of the “Program to Support the Creation of Co-creation Spaces (COI-NEXT),” we will redouble our efforts in joint research and societal implementation related to the bioeconomy. Together with our stakeholders, we will work to envision the future of our region and contribute to solving challenges.
