Sunflowers for green manure, scaling up at the university's front field!

Summer is in full swing, and vegetables are being harvested every day at the farm in front of the university.

We plan to gradually increase the planting area at this field, so in May, we sowed sunflower seeds in the area where we will grow vegetables next year. The reason for this is to prepare the soil for next year.

Actually, sunflowers can also be used as green manure crops.

If you cut the sunflowers while they are still in full bloom, before the seeds ripen, and work them into the soil, they will be transformed into natural fertilizer—an essential component of soil improvement.

On Thursday, August 1, we used a tractor to harvest the sunflowers and plow them into the soil.

It feels like a waste to miss out on such a beautiful view, but I’ll have to put up with it for the sake of next year’s crop.

I'm already looking forward to seeing what the field in front of the university will look like next year.
