An exchange of opinions was held at the University of the Ryukyus.

On Monday, October 16, we visited the University of the Ryukyus COI-NEXT Sustainable Aquaculture Center.

Last year, we visited the University of the Ryukyus, and this marks our second meeting to exchange views.

We gathered information and exchanged views with Professor Takemura of the Department of Marine Natural Sciences in the Faculty of Science regarding marketing strategies and sales of primary industry products.

In particular, at the University of the Ryukyus hub, since the university has a track record of successfully commercializing processed grouper products through the “University of the Ryukyus Brand Product Development Support Project”—which it previously supported and implemented—we found it very informative to learn about their planning, management, and sales processes.

We also had the opportunity to tour a research facility dedicated to sustainable land-based aquaculture.

In particular, I was surprised by the closed-loop land-based aquaculture system we’re developing with ARK, as it uses such a small-scale facility that it’s hard to believe it’s land-based aquaculture.

Since our organizations are both hubs focused on primary industries, we hope to continue exchanging information with you.
