We held a "Sweet Potato and Peanut Harvest Event" at the university's front field!
We at the “Nagaoka COI-NEXT Project” practice pesticide- and chemical fertilizer-free farming on a plot of land in front of the university; this land is used to advance the project’s research and as a venue for agricultural experiences open to the local community.
On Sunday, November 3, and Monday, November 4, we held a “Sweet Potato and Peanut Harvest Event” in collaboration with “Kodomo Mirai Shokudo” in Nagaoka City.
We were blessed with fine weather on the day of the event, and the children enjoyed the harvest with lively expressions as they moved around energetically. This harvest event was also made possible thanks to the cooperation of staff from FieldWorks Co., Ltd.—a participating organization in this project—as well as international students. Amid the crisp, clear air, everyone seemed to be refreshed both physically and mentally as they harvested vegetables one after another and spent time in contact with the soil.
After the harvest, in addition to sweet potatoes and peanuts, participants took home a variety of fall vegetables, including water spinach, arugula, shungiku, cilantro, and daikon radish. We hope they’ll enjoy the bounty of fall at home as well.
We will continue to collaborate with Kodomo Mirai Shokudo to carry out various activities at the university farm!
