Exchanged opinions with Nagasaki University.
On Wednesday, April 26, Mr. Seiyano, Project Leader, and Mr. Murokoshi, Deputy Project Leader, from Nagasaki University visited our university, and we held a meeting to exchange views.
To begin with, PL Ogasawara provided an overview of this facility and its activities.
Mr. Seya, the Project Leader, gave a presentation on the “Nagasaki BLUE Economy: Collaborative Hub for the Industrialization of Aquaculture to Sustain Marine Food Production,” covering the current state and challenges of the aquaculture industry, as well as the hub’s activities.
There were lively discussions on topics such as sharing the challenges faced by each location and the initiatives being taken to address them, conceptualizing collaborative products across locations, and applying the research and development being conducted at each location.
With the vision of “realizing a local community that thrives alongside the ocean, attracting young people and bringing new vitality through the promotion of aquaculture digital transformation (DX),” this hub aims to create a new aquaculture industry centered on yellowtail farming in Nagasaki, thereby generating employment and building a vibrant community where young people choose to settle.
To advance yellowtail farming technology and establish a production and sales system with an eye toward exporting “JAPAN Yellowtail” overseas, we are promoting cross-disciplinary innovation by incorporating comprehensive knowledge from the latest advancements in fisheries science, marine engineering, and social sciences. Furthermore, we are advancing the industrialization of the aquaculture sector from three perspectives—“changing work processes,” “changing rearing methods,” and “changing work styles”—with the goal of establishing Nagasaki as a hub for sustainable seafood production that contributes to reviving fish consumption among the Japanese population and promoting the health of people around the world.
